Microsoft Security Essentials

In the past, you would often associate Microsoft with a less than ideal track record that is only made worse by the virus infestation on its line of Windows operating systems. Code named Morro, Security Essentials merges the anti-spyware capabilities of Windows Defender (also developed by Microsoft) with newly introduced anti-virus measures, aiming to bring light to PC users who are in need of a freeware alternative. Independent testing done by those such as AV-Comparative suggest that it is among reputable performers such as Avast or Avira. Though the lack of advanced options might frustrate power users,  it is still recommended as a worthy competitor to proprietary anti-virus products.
